Conflict in the Middle East
Over the weekend, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran following weeks of military build-up in the region and several rounds of talks on Iran's nuclear programme. Our partner FE Investments have provided an initial response to the rapidly changing situation and its possible impact on the markets which can be found below.
In brief, the US-led attacks on Iranian military and government targets have inflicted significant damage, including the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In reply, the Iranian military has attacked military and civilian infrastructure in Israel and many US allies in the region. The attacks have also resulted in the closure of the key shipping route out of the Persian Gulf.
The outbreak of fighting has triggered big moves in some financial markets as the price of oil and gas have risen and defensive assets have also gained as some investors look for safety.
This post is the opinion of Velarium Wealth and contains a document produced by FE Investments that we feel is relevant at the current time. This document has been prepared for general information only and is not guaranteed to be complete or accurate. It does not contain all of the information which an investor may require in order to make an investment decision.
